The Jazz Age Garden Party supports charities which restore people's spirit and hope.

In 2005 the generosity of our guests helped build a nursery school in Sri Lanka, which is now up and running.  The Beetleback Nursery School, named after our 1932 Alvis 12/60 Beetleback, was a response to the 2004 Tsunami, and now provides education, stability and a future to 40 very young children.

The opening day, with happy parents.  These are the lucky children who survived the Tsunami; many were drowned.

In 2007 we supported Flying Scholarships for the Disabled Suffering a catastrophic physical disability can happen to anyone at random though a serious accident or illness, and completely destroy a way of life.  Learning to fly a light aircraft, perhaps to Private Pilots Licence standard, transforms disabled peoples’ self perception, giving them a wonderful new sense of confidence, empowering them to take on greater challenges, and inspiring other people, whatever their circumstances, to look anew at their situation in life.

Graduate pilot Mandy Pantall, representing the charity at the 2007 Jazz Age Garden Party.

Mandy, a support worker, was no stranger to flying being a one-time member of the Utterly Butterly wing walking team. A horse riding accident left her with spinal injuries and unable to stand or walk without the aid of crutches.

Following selection for a mini scholarship in 2005 Mandy applied for a full scholarship in 2006 and was awarded an NPPL scholarship at Goodwood which she passed with flying colours. She then upgraded it herself to a PPL.

In reply to a question about her two scholarships, Mandy said “It has been truly the most encompassing, remarkable, challenging, intensive, tiring, fun, scary, rewarding and completely inspiring experience I could ever have wished for”.

We greatly welcome enquiries from charitable organisations wishing to be associated with our events.
